The History of Immanuel Baptist Church

Immanuel Baptist Church 1956

Church Hisory: Although the specific reason was not recorded in the munutes, a group of people met on February 27, 1956 for the purpose of organizing a church. It is my belieft that the motivations had nothing to do with any reason that man could devise. God's plan was that the Immanuel Bpatist Church would be built on the east edge of Bethany, Missouri, in fact it was barely in the city limits. The closest neighbors were farms, and the nearest building was the Noll Memorial Hospital. Our church was located in the country. That was 1956 - in the early 1960's, all that began to change, with the construction of Interstated 35. A revolution was started with a couple of truck stops. It has expanded today to the point of fast food, fast fueling, fast chocolate, fast shopping, fast banking, fast antiqueing and more.

All this just to say that none of the twenty three people who made up the charter membership of Immanuel could have foreseen the wisdom and providence of the location - but God Knew. In recent history, the church voted for extensive remodeling of the fellowship hall and kitchen, in 2005, also adding a handicap accessible restroom. Larger crowds led to the addition of a second whorsip service at 8:30am on Sunday morning. Continued growth has led the church to decide to build a new sanctuary. To the right you will see an architects rendering of the expansion connected to our existing facility.
